‘Bosses have to watch shit in seats’: Manager resigns after company asks him to work from office

A marketing manager in her 20s from the Midwest decided to quit her job when her company demanded that everyone return to the office. The woman, Danielle, shared that her team had been productive, but superiors wanted to see the employees working in the office so they could trust her effectiveness.

“People who are in any kind of managerial or leadership position, if they have to see people, if they have to see the backs of seats to think that people are working, they don’t know how people work.” Danielle told Business Insider.

Interestingly, her old job was advertised online as a remote position once she left.

Danielle, who had already worked remotely for a day or two a week in her digital marketing role before the pandemic, switched to a fully remote role at a company that emphasizes a hybrid approach.

This new company focuses on effective communication and productivity in remote and hybrid work environments rather than emphasizing presence in the office.

“The tools are there. The ability is there. What matters is whether or not people are willing to embrace the new way of working.” she said.

“And I think with any big change, with any societal change, there are people who really want to hold on to the old.”

Full-time remote work has been a blessing for people like Danielle. She allowed him to spend more time with her family and prioritize her well-being. This change made her feel healthier as she was able to sleep and walk more.
