Metro reported how Wayne Withers’ journey began. Wayne began using the username “Seasiders” on the dark web marketplace Alphabay in May 2017 when he contacted another user named “Machismo” and asked about the price of a kilo of Brazilian cocaine, according to prosecutor Mark Friend. .

When he was given an estimated $20,000 (around Rs 16.44 lakh), the two began negotiating the sale and arrangement of the drug shipment.

Wayne Withers received a “trial purchase” of four grams of cocaine on May 25, 2017. Wayne, on the other hand, was not satisfied with the purchase. He claimed that he smelled like soap and said, “I just need to get better at packing. I can lose 10kg in a month, but only the best will do. I’m willing to do 1kg the following week.”

“I’m in it for the long haul,” he allegedly claimed. Although Wayne had hoped to do this for a long time, Machismo informed him that he was having difficulty relaying orders to him. He also offered to give the next shipment as a gift.

The next time difficulties arose. Machismo stated that it would use a “stealthy method”. As a result, Wayne became dissatisfied with Machismo. He denied any involvement in the seized packages.

“What exactly do you mean, dude? It’s not my fault. I paid you $6,000. You keep saying they’re seizing your packages, but that has nothing to do with me,” Wayne explained.

He said, “I’m not here to waste anyone’s time or rob anyone.” While Wayne was arranging for a large quantity of cocaine to be shipped to his tanning boat under the alias G. Wilcox, the FBI found the Alphabay darknet marketplace. It was later closed and the court stated that no evidence of the second shipment was ever found.

Man was jailed for two years and eight months.

Almost four years later, in March 2021, Lancashire Police raided Wayne’s home in Sandyfields, Preston, discovering two encrypted iPhones and three laptops equipped with dark web access software.

Wayne Withers claimed in court that he only accessed the dark web twice, and his lawyer, Anthony Parkinson, also pointed out that a significant amount of time had passed since the crime was committed and that Wayne had never committed any other crimes.

After admitting to previously using cocaine, Wayne has been jailed for two years and eight months.
