California woman arrested for comically fake license plate on stolen car

A California woman was arrested for taping a comically forged license plate to the back of an allegedly stolen car.

The driver, Angel Rachiene Bolton, 38, was arrested early Friday morning by police in Benicia, California, for brazenly handwriting license plate numbers with a thick black marker on what appears to be printer paper and affixing it with duct tape on the back of a silver Kia Rio LX.

“We know we are not superheroes, but FYI, this is NOT a way to trick us,” the Benica Police Department wrote on Facebook.

“At approximately 1 a.m. today, one of our officers was patrolling the area of the 5000 block of East 2nd Street when he saw this beautifully handwritten license plate on a car. A quick check of the vehicle showed that it was reported stolen in Alameda.”

The numbers on the right side of the simulated “plate” were somewhat smaller than those on the left, apparently because the artist ran out of space trying to fit them in.

To make matters worse, the tags on the counterfeit license plate were expired.

In the upper right corner of the plate was written “JANUARY 2023,” where the expiration date would be on an actual registration label.

The poorly falsified “license plate” had expired labels. Benicia Police Department

Bolton was arrested without incident and taken to Solano County Jail, police said. She was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor possession of “illegal paraphernalia.”

She could not be reached for comment Saturday.

His arrest was first reported by SFGate.
