A car crashed into a parked pickup truck protecting President Biden’s motorcade Sunday night as the commander in chief was leaving his campaign headquarters in Delaware.
Biden was walking from the campaign office to his armored van when a silver sedan with Delaware plates collided with a U.S. Secret Service vehicle that was being used to close the intersection near the headquarters for the president’s departure.
The sedan, which suffered bumper damage, attempted to enter a closed intersection before Secret Service agents swarmed the vehicle with weapons drawn and forced the driver to surrender.
Biden was taken to his car, where his wife, first lady Jill Biden, was already waiting before they were whisked home.
The 81-year-old Democrat and his wife are safe.
The Secret Service said there was no “protective interest” related to the incident, meaning the accident was unintentional and the driver was likely unaware of Biden’s presence, CNN reported.

“Today, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a Secret Service vehicle securing the route of the President’s motorcade was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington, DE,” spokesman Steve Kopek told the outlet.
“There was no protective interest associated with this event and the president’s motorcade departed without incident.”
The Post has contacted the Secret Service for comment.

Wilmington police told the New York Times that no one was injured and authorities were investigating whether disability was a factor in the crash.
Before the incident, Jill Biden first entered the vehicle after leaving the campaign offices in downtown Wilmington around 8:07 p.m.
The president then left the campaign headquarters and moments after answering a question shouted by the press, a loud bang was heard that seemed to surprise Biden, according to the White House press pool report.

Biden and his wife visited campaign headquarters on Sunday night, where they ate pasta with tomato sauce with members of his election team.
The incident was not the first incident involving a Biden motorcade.
In 2020, then-President-elect Biden’s motorcade crashed into another car in Wilmington, Delaware.
According to state police, the police officer and a 77-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

In 2015, an NYPD motorcycle cop from then-Vice President Biden’s detail was injured when he crashed his bike while escorting the vice president to the airport.
The highway patrol officer was traveling with the motorcade across the Triborough Bridge around 2:15 p.m. on September 11, 2015 when it went out of control.
Biden, who had been in town for an appearance on the “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and the 9/11 ceremonies, was told about the crash while boarding Air Force Two.
