On Thursday, October 19, it was reported that the former leader of the Mexican Petroleum Union (Pemex), Carlos Romero Deschamps, died at the age of 79, apparently due to a myocardial infarction.
The native of Tampico, Tamaulipas, began to gain positions in the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), then in Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) and later in the STPRM, Union of Petroleum Workers of the Mexican Republic.
In this body he was re-elected a total of four times to add a total of 26 years at the head of the oil union, but he resigned from his position in 2021, however, he was attacked for continuing to receive payments.

Romero Deschamps was always involved in controversy for leading a lifestyle full of luxury for himself and his family, however, there are no records that determine the amount of his fortune.
However, there are official records in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SCHP), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) on million-dollar transactions, payments, deposits and transfers.
He received 1,189.6 million pesos, which were given to him as leader of the oil tankers for land and air travel, events, construction works, telephones, among other items.
According to a BBC publication, his official salary as a Pemex worker was 25 thousand pesos per month, around $1,300.

Romero Deschamps was seen on multiple occasions wearing ostentatious watches worth up to $20,000, but among them stands out an 18-carat watch from the Audemars Piguet brand, which he showed off on a trip to Las Vegas.
This was not the only luxury he was given, since on social networks and in the media the former leader of Pemex was shown with his family aboard yachts and private planes.
Likewise, his two children boasted limited edition Ferrari cars, shopping in exclusive stores in Europe and staying in luxury hotels.
