“It must be a mistake,” he told the Colorado Lottery what he had initially thought.

Bud opted for the lump sum cash option of $2,533,520. The first thing he bought? — A ripe watermelon for him and a bouquet for his wife, he said.

Bud decided to accept the cash prize and says he will donate some of the winnings to charity. Colorado Lottery

He said his wife has some upcoming surgeries that the profits will help cover, but other than some simple fruits and flowers, he has no plans other than looking to give back.

“I’m going to donate to some charities and really think about what I’m supposed to do with this,” he said.

Bud, who always plays his top-secret lucky numbers, bought the winning ticket at Hangin Tree Travel Plaza in Montrose.
