Criminal who attacked judge ‘superman’ style accused of attempted murder in shocking attack

The convicted felon who threw himself onto a Las Vegas judge’s “Superman” stand last week appeared in court again Tuesday to face an attempted murder charge for the shocking attack.

Deobra Redden was surrounded by guards with a mask covering her mouth and orange gloves on her hands as she appeared in front of a different judge to face charges over last Wednesday’s courtroom chaos.

Redden, 30, was charged with attempted murder of an elderly person, assault, intimidation of a public official with threat of force, extortion and disregard for the safety of a person resulting in substantial bodily harm, KVVU reported.

During a hearing last week, Redden lashed out at Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus after she denied his request for probation for a baseball bat attack in April.

Redden is accused of pulling Holthus’s hair while putting his hands around her throat and hitting her on the head, according to a criminal complaint obtained by CNN.

“Once he learned she was about to sentence him to prison, (Redden) jumped over the defense attorneys’ table into the courtroom pit, then ran to the courtroom and jumped on it ‘style’ superman’ directly to the judicial chair of Judge Mary Kay Holthus. space, landing directly on top of her and immediately attacking the judge,” the complaint describes.

He also allegedly fought a Las Vegas police officer, a clerk and a sheriff’s deputy while spitting on an officer, the complaint states.

Ahead of Tuesday’s hearing, Redden landed in Holthus’ courtroom on Monday, where he was also forced to wear orange gloves and a hood that covered his entire face while wearing shackles following his viral outburst.

He was sentenced to between 19 and 48 months in prison for the past assault with the baseball bat.

Following Monday’s sentencing, Redden’s family told reporters that their loved one had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Court records indicate he was competent to stand trial.

Adoptive mother Karen Springer said Redden “just broke” when he lunged at the judge.

“No disrespect. We don’t deny what he did,” Springer said.

“It’s a chemical imbalance,” said his sister LaDonna Daniels. “I don’t think sending him to prison will help.”
