David Axelrod warns Biden camp after Trump’s easy Iowa win as Harris promises victory: ‘Get going’

Former President Barack Obama’s former campaign strategist David Axelrod said Tuesday that Biden’s re-election team must prepare for a tough race against the “formidable” Donald Trump, a day after Vice President Kamala Harris promised that the Democratic candidacy would defeat whoever the Republicans nominate. .

“The president and his campaign need to get going and they need a message,” Axelrod told “CNN This Morning.”

“And they need a message that encompasses not only democracy but also the everyday concerns of people, and they need to carry it out every day through each of their surrogates,” he added.

Biden’s team has long argued that Trump poses an existential threat to American democracy following his attempts to remain in power after his loss in the 2020 election.

Polls have shown Trump, 77, leading Biden, 81, head-to-head in the popular vote despite facing four criminal cases and a total of 91 charges.

“Let’s all be aware – and Trump demonstrated it again yesterday – that he is not a normal candidate and he is a quite formidable candidate,” Axelrod added. “And now he’s on the ballot.”

The former Obama ally has become known for his criticism of Biden’s re-election effort, which has at times irritated the White House.

Unlike Axelrod, Harris struck a confident tone about Biden’s prospects.

Unless there is a dramatic change, Americans will likely face a rematch between Trump and Biden on November 5.
