Deepak Dhar Career

After returning from the United States, Deepak worked as a Research Fellow at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in 1978. In 1980, he became a full-time researcher at TIFR and served there until 1986. Between 1991 to  2008, he served as an assistant professor and as Professor from Grades G to J at TIFR. In addition to this, he also went to the University of Paris for a one-year sabbatical in 1984-85 and to Issac Newton Institute in 2008 for a month. Currently, he works as a visiting faculty at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research in Pune.

Besides his teaching career, he has also done research in the field of Theoretical Physics. Some of his works include, “Exact Solution of a Directed-Site Animals-Enumeration Problem in Three Dimensions” (1983), “Exactly solved model of self-organized critical phenomena” (1989), “Self-organized critical state of sandpile automaton models” (1990), and “The Abelian sandpile and related models” (1999).
