Delhi prisons get devices to detect hidden mobiles

According to a senior prison official, these detectors can even find objects that have been buried up to two feet below the surface of soil or concrete.
“In 2021, we placed an order for two nonlinear junction detectors, which we tested. The conclusion was satisfactory, so the department made the decision to order more devices from a company based in the United States. According to the official, the equipment can detect metals, SIM cards and mobile phones through concrete that can be buried up to two feet. The department has spent Rs 1.5 crore on 10 devices, each of which costs Rs 15 lakh. The combined capacity of the three jails of Delhi Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini is 10,026 inmates.
