DeLorean Alpha5 has wanted the legendary DeLorean to return for a long time, and now it’s finally happening. But the DeLorean Alpha5 isn’t just a redesigned version of the legendary car we first saw in the Back to the Future movies. Instead, it’s a completely new version of the sports car made famous by its unique design.
This car, called the Alpha5, brings back the iconic gull-wing doors that made its predecessor so special. However, it does away with the straight lines and blocky look of its predecessor in favor of a design full of curves and smoother lines.
The powertrain of the car has also been taken to a new level. It’s very different from the car that came out in the 1980s with an underperforming six-cylinder engine in the rear. The new DeLorean Alpha5 gets its power from electricity.
With a battery pack that can hold more than 100 kWh, the company is confident that at least this car will be able to drive itself for more than 300 miles. The top speed of the vehicle is 250 km/h, which is good but not as good as other fast sports cars that can easily exceed 300 km/h.
From the images that have been shown, it is clear that the Alpha5 follows in the footsteps of grand touring cars and has a spacious cabin that seems easy to get used to. Its appearance makes us think that it is a coupe or a large coupe, although it is definitely bigger than its predecessor.
The DeLorean Alpha5 measures 5 meters long, 2 meters wide and 1.3 meters high when the doors are closed. As we have already said, the doors continue to open in the form of “gull wings”, which, together with the medallion, reminds us of that unforgettable stainless steel sports car.
The bodywork, made in collaboration with Italdesign, emphasizes the car’s aerodynamics. The concept car’s hood resembles the basic shape of an airplane fuselage, tapering from front to back. The fact that its rear fenders are wide and rounded adds to this idea.
Inside, like most modern cars, the DeLorean Alpha5 has two large screens that seem to rise from the center console toward the dash, displaying the instrument panel and infotainment system. “The Alpha5 is a representation of the last 40 years of DeLorean,” said Troy Beetz, director of marketing for DeLorean Motor Company. “It was a big responsibility to honor the history of the DeLorean brand, but it was an even bigger responsibility to shape its future… I think Alpha5 helped us do both.”
DeLorean plans to show the Alpha5 for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. At least in terms of design, this will solve all doubts.
On the other hand, the company did not say anything about how much its new product would cost. However, some people in the business world believe that the DeLorean Alpha5 is likely to cost more than $100,000. Mexican pesos at the current exchange rate. On its official website, DeLorean is already taking orders for the cars it plans to build.
