‘Delusional’ driver arrested after car crashes into barrier near Capitol ahead of Santos ouster debate

A “delusional and combative” driver was arrested Thursday morning after crashing his car into a security barrier outside a House office building, authorities said.

According to Capitol Police, Kevin Simon, 28, was charged with reckless driving, resisting arrest and two counts of fleeing after crashing into the barricade in front of the Longworth Office Building shortly before 8 a.m.

Investigators said Simon abruptly exited Interstate 395 North and crashed into two other cars in D.C.’s Capitol Hill neighborhood before breaking through the barrier, suffering minor injuries in the process.

Capitol Police said there was no indication the crash was deliberate or related to terrorism.

Simon was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The incident took place while accused Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was holding a press conference ahead of a debate and vote on his possible expulsion from Congress.

The crash also came 23 days after a registered sex offender from Georgia was arrested while walking with a rifle near three Senate office buildings on the other side of the Capitol.
