Neymars Al Hilal will face Mumbai City in the AFC Champions LeagueTwitter

Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr. could play against India, and on Indian soil as well. It is an unprecedented pairing, but it all started when Neymar signed for Saudi club Al Hilal, following in the footsteps of his Portuguese brother, Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed a contract with Al Nassar.

Fans began to erupt in cheers online as the news of Neymar playing his first game in India began to spread on the internet. So how did the idea come about? Well, it’s all thanks to Al Hilal, as the Saudi club was drawn into the same group as Mumbai City for the AFC Champions League on Thursday.

After securing his $300 million deal with Al Hilal, Neymar could test modest waters as he takes on Mumbai City at the Balewai Sports Complex in Pune. The Pune complex will be the MC’s “home” for the match, as Mumbai’s Andheri Sports Complex did not meet the requirements for the championship.

Fans keep expectations low

While the group stage of the AFC Championship begins on September 18, it is still unknown when Al Hilal will play against the Indian team. Also, fans have doubts about Neymar coming to desi soil. They hope the soccer superstar will skip the match.

In addition to the highly anticipated match, there are two other teams in Group D alongside Mumbai City. They are FC Nassaji Mazandaran from Iran and PFC Navbahor Namangan from Uzbekistan.

This is great. More such tours are needed for the comprehensive development of Indian football, not only at the top level but also at the youth level.

Neymar was greeted by thousands of rabid fans in Riyadh last week when the former PSG player was officially announced as the new addition to Al-Hilal in front of fans at the 68,000-capacity King Fahd International Stadium.

However, Neymar missed out on Saturday during Al Hilal’s game against Al-Fayha. The player is expected to make his debut for his Saudi club on Thursday in a match against Al-Raed.

With doubts on their minds, Indian fans let out screams on Twitter, also known as X, after the news spread. Many imagined how Neymar would feel if he played at the Pune stadium. Others were simply willing to shell out their money for a game ticket.
