Axie Infinity, a popular play-to-win (P2E) blockchain game, alerted players to a new hack attempt involving its Discord bot MEE6. The MEE6 bot is a popular Discord bot used by many projects to automate various roles and messages. According to Axie Infinity’s tweets, the attackers gained control of the MEE6 bot, which was installed on the main server, and used it to grant permissions to a fake Jiho account. The hackers then used the account to spread information about a fake mint.
The team managed to remove the scam messages and the compromised MEE6 bot from the main server. They warned that many users would see the fake message until they restarted Discord.
Several projects with the MEE6 bot installed on their servers have experienced similar issues. RTFKT, PROOF/Moonbirds, PXN, Memeland, Cool Cats, and other admin accounts have been compromised.

Subsequently, the official MEE6 Twitter account clarified that there was no technical failure in their systems, but there was a compromised employee account. The MEE6 team stated that the issue has been resolved and that similar incidents will not occur in the future.
However, it is not clear what message the attackers posted, as well as the scope of the attack.

Some servers reported that MEE6 is used to post spam messages. There is no technical gap in our systems. This was because the account of one of our employees was compromised.
