Location sharing has become a common feature on our smartphones these days. It allows us to easily share our location in real time with friends, family and even companies. However, what happens when you decide to stop sharing your location? The answer depends on the location sharing service you were using. Here’s how it works with some of the most popular apps:
Does it notify you when you stop sharing location? through Apple services?
apple find me The apps allow you to share your location with other iPhone users. If you stop sharing your location, the other person won’t receive a notification. However, the next time they check their location in the Find My app, their location will show as “Not Shared.” So they won’t receive an active alert, but they will see that you are no longer sharing when they check. It works differently than other services that allow you to track the exact location of the mobile number.
- If you turn off sharing in Find My Friends, your friends will simply see you disappear from their friends list in the app.
- If you turn off sharing in Find My iPhone for a family member, they’ll still see your device in the list, but your location will appear as “Not Shared.”
The only notification they might receive is if you had chosen to share your location indefinitely. In that case, Apple will send a notification that the sharing period has expired. But there’s no specific message about stopping active sharing.
Share location on Google Maps
Google Maps also allows you to share your location in real time. If you stop sharing your location on Google Maps, when it stops sharing your location, it notifies you that it says “__ has stopped sharing your location.”
- So when you share your Google Maps location, the other person receives an active notification when you stop sharing it.
- One thing to keep in mind is that you will only receive a notification if the person stops sharing completely. If they simply turn off sharing with you specifically, you won’t receive a notification.
Facebook Messenger Location
On Facebook Messenger, you can share your location in real time in a chat. So when you stop sharing location, does it notify you? Beyond apps, some car companies and insurance providers offer their own location-sharing services. So, if you stop sharing your driving location with an insurer or automaker, assume they will receive a notice that you have revoked access to the data. These types of services usually opt for active notifications for risk protection purposes.
