San Francisco hit another record when it comes to drug overdoses in the Democratic city, with nearly 85 deaths last month, and residents say the alarming numbers are just more evidence that the city has become an “apocalypse.” zombie”.
The City by the Bay recorded 84 deaths in August, 66 of them related to the deadly drug fentanyl.
It tied January as the deadliest month since the city began tracking overdose deaths in early 2020.
This year is on track to surpass 2020’s deaths, which reached a record 725, according to reports from San Francisco officials. More than 560 users have died this year and another 300 are expected to die before the end of the year.
“This is crazy, it’s very sad, it’s like a zombie apocalypse,” Georgia Taylor, 21, who is homeless and abuses fentanyl, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “You can’t help people who don’t want help.”

Fellow drug addict Will Kretck, who was about to take a dose of fentanyl, was the one who noticed, ran over to the unconscious man and began performing CPR, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“Someone help! Get some Narcan!” Kretck, 39, shouted.
Another homeless man had run into his store to grab a can and dispense the opioid reversal drug into the man’s body, saving him.
“This is the fourth person I’ve saved in the last week and a half,” Kretck recalled to the Chronicle. “I’m glad she’s not one of those who died. I’ve saved people and then I hear they died, and it breaks you.
“That could be me someday.”

Kretck and Taylor hope to get clean again, but the former says it’s “very difficult” to do so.
“You could sell it on Catalina Island and people would get on rafts to go buy it,” he told the Chronicle.

San Francisco police have attempted to thwart drug markets in high-profile areas such as the Tenderloin. Police seized 100 pounds of fentanyl between June and September.
