She is also a doctoral candidate in the Department of Politics at Princeton University. Tsurkov has also done consulting work for the Atlantic Council and the International Crisis Group. Since Elizabeth Tsurkov has been missing for more than three months, her family is currently concerned. Furthermore, according to the Tsurkov family, the Iraqi government is solely responsible for her safety. Not to mention, Tsurkov was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1986 to Jewish parents. Her parents allegedly moved to Israel. Tsurkov’s early years were spent on a kibbutz. While the identity of his father is still unknown, his mother, Irina, has spoken publicly about her daughter. Tsurkov’s parents reportedly served prison terms for cooperating with Natan Sharansky during the Soviet era.
Tsurkov also has a younger sister named Emma. Before his father, Tsurkov moved to Israel in 1990 with his mother and his sister. Later, the Tsurkov family moved to an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Elizabeth Tsurkov is mixed race, however it is unknown what religion she practices. Although it is rumored that Tsurkov may be a Christian, this information will soon be corrected. To the best of her knowledge, Tsurkov speaks Arabic, Hebrew, English, and Russian with ease. When she was nine years old, Tsurkov joined other children from the settlement in a protest in Jerusalem against the Oslo Accords, the peace process with the Palestinians.

The general consensus is that Tsurkov is safe, despite everyone’s concerns. Irina, Elizabeth’s mother, first told the Israeli public channel Kan that no Israeli official had contacted her and that she was unaware of Elizabeth’s existence in Iraq. Similarly, Emma, her sister, claimed that he had lost contact with her in March despite knowing that her sister was in Baghdad. Elizabeth’s safety, according to the family, is directly under the control of the Iraqi authorities.
