Elon Musk plans to rebrand Twitter

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, revealed today that he intends to redesign the site to reflect the billionaire’s goal of creating a “super app” like China’s WeChat. “And soon, we will be saying goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually to all the birds,” Musk tweeted.

“If a good enough X logo is released tonight, we will release it worldwide tomorrow,” he added in a subsequent tweet.

According to Twitter’s website, its logo, depicting a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset” and “that’s why we’re so protective of it.”

In April, the bird was briefly replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog, which contributed as much as $4 billion to the meme coin’s market value.

The term ‘X’ has been on the billionaire’s mind for some time. He had tweeted “I look forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the app of everything” when he welcomed the new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, in April.

He had stated: “Buying Twitter is an accelerator to create X, the application of everything” in October.

Since Tesla billionaire Musk bought Twitter last year and laid off a large part of its workforce, the social media company has experienced numerous technical problems. The social media business has been making a series of desperate attempts to reinvigorate the platform as ad revenue has fallen rapidly.

The company, which continues to lose money, is trying to develop business models that can replace advertising. The company’s $8 monthly premium Twitter Blue subscription hasn’t seen much use. This month, Twitter began paying select Twitter Blue subscribers a share of ad revenue based on how many people engaged with their tweets. Accounts that frequently communicate with Elon Musk were awarded.
