Eric Adams explains that New York is the “greatest city in the world” with a strange reference to 9/11: “Very complicated”

Mayor Eric Adams surprised several social media users after referencing the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in his description of why New York City is the “greatest city in the world.”

Adams spoke with host Dan Mannarino on WPIX-TV’s “PIX on Politics” on Sunday when the latter asked the mayor what word he would use to describe 2023.

“New York. This is a place where every day you wake up, you can experience everything from a plane crashing into our Trade Center to a person celebrating the opening of a new business. This is a very, very complicated city and that is why it is the largest city in the world,” Adams responded.

The New York City mayor’s reference to the series of terrorist attacks that killed approximately 3,000 people on September 11, 2001 took many people by surprise. Many called Adams’ comment a “disgrace” and probably the “worst response” they have ever heard.

“What the fuck,” Fox News contributor Guy Benson responded.

Jack McGuire of Barstool Sports stated, “This can be considered the worst answer of 2023.”

“I’m not sure that selling New York as a place where you can experience 9/11 is the best argument that can be made for the greatest city in the world…” commented Washington Post journalist Josh Dawsey.

Fast Company columnist James Surowiecki wrote: “It’s not an act. He is a really strange guy.”

“How do we keep electing such stupid people? What a shame,” ESPN’s Jake Asman posted.

“I’m going to log off for today,” said Antwan Stanley, a columnist for the New York Daily News.

Elsewhere during the interview, Adams spoke about the continuing immigration crisis affecting his city. She revealed that without additional help from the federal government, the city will be forced to make budget cuts.

“Well, let’s be clear. “What we are going to have to do is extremely painful,” Adams said. “We’ll have to look at how we serve our agencies without the resources we normally have.”
