This winter, astronomy enthusiasts and nature lovers should expect the most impressive northern lights display in two decades, according to studies. It promises to be an exciting show.
The Northern Lights, sometimes called the Northern Lights, are a spectacular natural phenomenon that captivates people around the world by painting the night sky in vibrant hues.

What do scientists predict?
Scientists are predicting the best Northern Lights displays for 20 years, and southern England has already witnessed them, making this winter a hugely successful year for aurora viewing.
The sun is expected to reach its “solar maximum,” or the peak of its roughly 11-year activity cycle.
After December 2019 saw the lowest solar maximum in a century, there is a lot of anticipation for the next one.
It came after the northern lights, which extended as far as Stonehenge over the weekend, illuminated large parts of the UK and Ireland.
Scientist who studies space physics at the Tromsø Geophysical Observatory, a division of the Arctic University of Norway (UiT), Njål Gulbrandsen, said: “I expect there to be more aurora activity than there has been in the last 20 years.”
More solar storms have occurred as the sun approaches its zenith, increasing the number of auroras visible further south than usual.
“The reason activity is increasing significantly right now is primarily due to this 11-year solar cycle,” he continued.
The fact that the previous solar cycle was weak is another aspect, so the current level of activity may be the highest in more than 20 years.
When can you see the northern lights?
From January to October 2024, bringing with them impressive aurora displays.
Where in Europe can you see the northern lights?
The impressive auroras will be displayed both in the southern regions of Europe and in the lower polar regions.
What are the best areas to see the auroras?
Northern Norway, the northern sections of Finland and Sweden, Iceland, the northern US and Canada, and the southern part of Greenland are usually the best places to see the northern lights, which occur when a large number of Particles from the sun travel towards Earth.
However, the auroral oval widens during solar maximum, making it visible in some parts of Europe.
