Her father, Vipan Sharma, is from Kashmir and follows Hinduism and her mother, Raj Tabassum, is from Srinagar and follows Islamic culture. Fatima completed her schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Mumbai. After her studies, she joined Mithibai College, Mumbai, for further studies.

Career
Fatima made her acting debut in 1997 as a child artist in the film Chachi 420 as the daughter of the male lead, played by veteran actor Kamal Hassan and the role of her mother played by actress Tabu. She worked in several films as a child artist such as Bade Dilwala, One 2 ka 4. She did the television series Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo as her debut television show, she played Suman. Her most popular shows were Best of Luck Nikki and Ladies Special.
She made her acting debut as a mature actress in 2008 in the film Tahaan as Zoya. In 2012, she played the character of Priya in Bittoo Boss and Sumbul in Akaash Vani (2013). Her debut Telugu film in 2015, Nuvvu Menu Okkatavudam as Sruti. Her biggest box office success was the sports biopic Dangal as the lead character Geeta Phogat, a gold medalist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In 2018, her film Thugs of Hindostan was the biggest release of the year 2018. She played Pinky in Ludo (2020) released on the OTT platform Netflix and his recently released Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari alongside Diljit Dosanjh and Manoj Bajpayee.
