First shipment of US weapons arrives in Israel after deadly Hamas attacks: IDF

The first shipment of American weapons arrived in Israel on Tuesday as the country wages war against Hamas, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

“The first plane carrying American weapons arrived this afternoon at the Nevatim air base in southern Israel.” the IDF tweeted. “Cooperation between our militaries is a key part of ensuring regional security and stability in times of war.”

The “advanced munitions” on board the plane will allow for “significant strikes and preparation for additional scenarios” against the terrorist group, IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

“We are grateful for American support and assistance to the IDF in particular, and the State of Israel in general, during this difficult period,” he added.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters at the White House on Tuesday that the United States “has increased munitions and interceptors to [Israel’s] Iron Dome missile defense system” by order of President Biden.

Sullivan added that Biden, 80, spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday to discuss “the additional capabilities that Israel will need.”

“He promised that American aircraft will land in Israel with those capabilities in the coming days,” Sullivan said, noting that the White House will work with Congress to ensure Israel continues to receive “critical assets.”

As part of the effort to arm Israel for its war against Hamas – which launched a deadly surprise terrorist attack against the Jewish state over the weekend – Boeing is also accelerating the delivery of 1,000 smart bombs, according to Fox News.

The Israeli Air Force reportedly brought the 250-pound bombs to Israel after being picked up at the US Air Force base.

The bombs were part of a 2021 contract, described as a “direct commercial sale” between Boeing and the Israeli military, according to the outlet.

Biden has pledged to support Israel following Saturday’s brutal attacks.

“Right now we must be very clear: We support Israel,” Biden said during his remarks on Tuesday. “And we will ensure that Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself and respond to this attack. There is no justification for terrorism. There is no excuse”.
