The subsequent scenes were heartbreaking as two victims were found embracing in the back seat of the Mercedes car. On Sunday June 25, 2023, the accident took place east of the Pilot House Station on Dodge Island in the early hours of Sunday around 3:40 am. Lt. Pete Sanchez of the Miami Fire Department said the US Coast Guard reported that a 30-foot boat struck the ferry in the channel. However, ferry workers emerged from the waters and handed the rescued victim over to US Coast Guard officers, then transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
