A Florida man was charged with child abuse after allegedly cutting off a 2-year-old relative’s penis in a botched circumcision attempt while babysitting the child.
Timothoes Powell, 29, was arrested last month after the boy’s mother, Powell’s cousin, rushed him to the hospital for a laceration to his genitals, according to police and local reports.
Powell had been babysitting the boy while his mother was working in Daytona Beach on Oct. 17 when the alleged abuse unfolded.
She called the boy’s mother around 7 p.m. to tell her the boy was “bleeding from his penis area because glass had gotten into his diaper,” according to a Holly Hill police report obtained by Fox 35 Orlando.
The family then took the boy to the hospital, where they had to glue his skin to repair the injury, according to the report. Hospital staff deemed the boy’s injury suspicious and reported it to police out of fear he may have been abused, the local station reported.
Investigators spoke with the family and learned the child was in Powell’s care at the time he was injured. Police questioned the man, who again stated that “there must have been a piece of glass in his diaper,” according to the report.
Powell also told police that “he could have taken [the boy’s] penis down too hard” and wiped it “very hard.” She said she “did not intentionally cut” the boy.

But a senior nurse from the Child Protection Team said the boy’s laceration was “too clean and precise to be accidental in any way” and was done intentionally.
He added that it appeared the wound “had attempted to circumcise” the boy, according to the police report.
Investigators said Powell’s statements about how the child was cut did not match his lacerations and recovered surveillance footage showing his behavior toward the child.
The videos, recorded by security cameras inside the home, show Powell changing the child’s diaper and walking away with an unknown object in her hand, while the baby screams and cries, according to Fox25.
Powell was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and remains behind bars in the Volusia County Jail on $100,000 bail, the station reported. FOX 35
Powell also appeared “frustrated” while putting the diaper on the child in another video.
He allegedly yelled at the boy, threatened to put soap in his mouth if he didn’t shut up and sprayed him with a water bottle, according to the police report.
Powell was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and remains behind bars in the Volusia County Jail on $100,000 bail, the station reported.
