Gang of violent monkeys kills 10-year-old boy in India

A band of violent monkeys terrorizing a city in India attacked again and killed a 10-year-old boy by tearing out his intestines.

Dipak Thakor was playing with friends in the small village of Salki when he was attacked by what has become a notorious gang of monkeys, and one of the animals dug its claws into the boy and tore out his intestines, according to a report from The Sun.

Thakor was rushed to hospital after the attack, but doctors tragically were unable to save his life.

“His intestine was torn out in the attack. “He ran (back) to his house and was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead upon his arrival,” a local official said in a statement, according to The Sun.

The monkeys responsible for the boy’s death have been on the run and have been responsible for multiple attacks, and the official said the latest tragedy was “the third monkey attack in the village in a week.”

Vishal Chaudhary, a forest official in Salki, said officials have been trying to hunt down what was described as a “large troop” of monkeys and have so far managed to capture a few.

“We have rescued two langurs in the last week and have installed cages to trap another langur,” Chaudhary said, according to the report. “There is a large troop of monkeys in the village, including four adults who have been involved in attacks over the last week. Two of them have been rescued. Efforts are underway to cage another.”

According to the report, dangerous encounters with monkeys are not uncommon in India. Earlier this year, a 3-year-old boy was kidnapped by a monkey who carried him off a cliff. In that case, the police conducted a search that lasted several hours and were able to locate the girl and return her safely to her parents.
