Lying Long Island Rep. George Santos became the latest House Republican to announce that he will not vote for Majority Leader Steve Scalise as the next speaker.
“It’s just after 9:40 pm and I still have no news from the designated president,” the scandal-scarred legislator wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “So I made my decision and after 10 months and having had no contact or contact with him, I came to the conclusion that my VOTE doesn’t matter to him.
“I now declare that I am ANYONE except Scalise and, come hell or high water, I will not change my mind,” Santos said.
House Republicans chose Scalise (R-La.) as their pick to replace ousted former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a closed-door vote Wednesday, but opted to postpone an official vote on the floor. after more than a dozen party members confirmed they would not support Scalise on the first ballot.
Santos joins seven members who have publicly stated that they will not vote for Scalise.

Representatives Marjorie Taylor-Greene of Georgia; Lauren Boebert of Colorado; Thomas Massie of Kentucky; and Chip Roy, Troy Nehls and Michael Cloud of Texas each said they would vote for the other leading GOP contender, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
Meanwhile, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.) said he would support McCarthy.
Santos complained about not having been included in his reasoning by the majority leader.

“We need a Speaker who leads by including every member of the team, not just a few. That’s not leadership!” said in X.
Many Republicans, however, have sought to distance themselves from the troubled New York politician, who has been indicted on charges including fraud and money laundering and, more recently, identity theft and wire fraud.
Six fellow New York Republicans want to expel Santos from the House entirely and plan to introduce “an expulsion resolution,” Nassau County Rep. Anthony D’Esposito announced Wednesday.

The announcement comes a day after Santos, 35, was hit with a series of new allegations when federal prosecutors unsealed a new indictment charging him with 10 additional counts, in addition to earlier allegations of embezzling campaign funds. and lie to Congress.
The latest crime he is accused of committing is stealing the identities of people who donated to his campaign and accumulating tens of thousands of dollars in their credit vehicles without their knowledge.
In May, the Long Island politician was indicted on 13 counts, including embezzling $50,000 in campaign money to purchase designer clothing and pay for personal expenses.
But even before the criminal investigations, Santos was criticized for lying about seemingly his entire background, including his education, work experience and family history.
