Google Drive for Android has introduced a useful two-page view for reading PDF files on devices with larger screens, such as tablets and foldable devices. This improves the reading experience on enlarged screens.
Previously, Drive only offered a single-page layout for viewing PDF files. But it now automatically enables a side-by-side page view when scrolling through PDF files on larger screens.
A toggle button to turn this two-page mode on or off appears next to the search and additional menus. When enabled, pages are displayed together like an open book to take advantage of additional display space.
Google specifically designed this feature for Android tablets and foldable phones where two standard pages can fit side by side in landscape orientation. Its goal is to optimize PDF reading and navigation without having to constantly zoom in and out.
Two-page view mimics reading a book or printed document, providing a more natural PDF reading feel on large screens. It’s particularly useful on devices like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
This new PDF viewing option is rolling out now to all Google Workspace customers, as well as personal Google accounts. Users only need the latest version of the Drive app for Android.
It joins other tablet-focused Drive improvements, such as multi-window support, a navigation bar, and expanded home screen widgets that similarly optimize Drive for larger screens.
Overall, the two-page PDF layout indicates Google’s ongoing efforts to optimize its apps and services for the unique capabilities of devices like Android tablets. Adding convenience and efficiency for large screen users remains a priority.
