Joseph* (real name withheld), a 48-year-old network engineer from Texas, USA, never intended to work three full-time remote jobs at the same time. But, according to documents obtained by Insider, he earned a total of $344,000 doing just that last year.
While the stress is getting to him, he says the extra money has had a tremendous impact on his family and he intends to keep it for as long as he can. According to a document obtained by Insider, his additional income helped her pay off the remaining $129,000 on his mortgage in August 2023.

When Joseph had a job that paid him $117,500 per year, he accepted a new remote position in IT that paid him $120,000. But before he left, he said a co-worker convinced him to stay and try to work both jobs at the same time.

Joseph claimed that he only performed four to five hours of “real work” each week in his position at the time, leading him to believe this was possible.
And if things got too much for him, he knew he could always quit one of those jobs. “I’ve never really heard anyone do this before,” he explained to Insider. “My colleague mentioned it and I tried it.”
He said he started working the second job in May 2023, which originally required 30 to 40 hours of overtime work each week. Six months later, his new business made a strategic move that Joseph believed would jeopardize his position.
He started looking for a new job. However, when he accepted a third job in February 2022, a full-time IT position that paid $120,000 a year, his second job’s workload had dropped from 30 to 40 hours a week to about five to eight. .
So he decided to try to do all three jobs at the same time.
Why did he hide his true identity?
Insider knows Joseph’s real name, but has suppressed it for fear of professional ramifications. He is one of many Americans who have gained additional employment as a result of excessive inflation.
He is also part of a smaller group of white-collar workers who secretly work multiple full-time remote jobs to earn more than double their salary.
However, the window to achieve this may be narrowing as many employers call remote employees back to the office and post fewer fully remote jobs.
Others, especially in the technology business, have laid off people in distant positions.
