The rare public outing came Saturday at Japanese sushi bar Matsuhisa, a likely welcome distraction from intense scrutiny by congressional Republicans of the first-born son’s overseas dealings, and the intensification of a federal investigation.
Looking wildly uncomfortable on camera, Hunter was photographed wearing a scruffy jean jacket and pants combination and cap, and what appears to be the beginnings of a beard, mustache, or both.
Still, Hunter Biden, 53, has managed to blend in under the radar as Republicans seek to use him as a bludgeon to create headaches for Hunter’s commander-in-chief and father, President Joe Biden.

Hunter secretly married Cohen in 2019; the couple welcomed a son they named after Hunter’s late brother, Beau.

The first son has had to deal with congressional Republicans eager to unearth information about his past that could be used against his father.
Last month, a planned plea deal for Hunter Biden regarding two federal misdemeanor charges for willful failure to pay federal income taxes imploded in a Delaware court.
The agreement was combined with a pretrial diversion agreement for felony unlawful possession of a firearm while addicted to illicit drugs.
US District Judge Maryellen Noreika, a Trump appointee who oversaw the hearing, raised constitutional questions about the deal and found the light of day between the prosecution and defense.

The young Biden’s lawyers appeared to be under the impression that he would be cleared of other possible charges while the federal government continued its investigation, which is believed to be related to his activities abroad.
On August 11, US General Merrick Garland granted Delaware US Attorney David Weiss, the point person in the Hunter Biden case, special counsel authority. As a result, Weiss has now added legal power to his investigation.
