Durga Shakti Nagpal is a bureaucrat, civil servant and officer of the Indian Administrative Services in Uttar Pradesh cadre. Currently, she is serving as Special Secretary of Medical Education in Uttar Pradesh. He becomes IAS officer from Agra in 2009 batch. His All India rank was 20 in UPSC exam and he entered Punjab cadre.

Durga Shakti Nagpal illegal sand mining case
Durga Shakti Nagpal made headlines when she exposed illegal sand mining in the NCR region comprising Faridabad, Delhi and Noida. It is reported that between 250 and 350 trucks are illegally loaded from the region daily. The cost of this arena is estimated at Rs 5,000 crore per year.
Illegal mining causes soil erosion and changes the natural flow of Yamuna and Hindon. As a result of massive illegal mining, there are high chances of flooding in the area. Given the bad consequences, a Special Mining Team was created after receiving many complaints.
Nagpal, the SDM, used surprise to arrest illegal miners operating in the area and confiscate their machinery. According to reports, 17 FIRs were lodged, illegal miners were arrested in 22 cases and Rs 8,234,000 in fines were collected. Due to her actions against the sand mafia, she was attacked during her visit to the Kasna police station.

Nagpal was suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government after she passed an order to demolish a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village in Rabupura area of Greater Noida. It was still unclear whether Durga was involved in the demolition or whether her actions were justified.

However, her followers at the time gave a statement that she did not order the destruction nor was she present at the scene when the event occurred. Her supporters claim that her rivals in the illegal sand mining case have filed false charges to get back at her. While on the other hand, some local villagers claimed that Durga personally supervised the destruction of the mosque wall.
The UP government filed a chargesheet against him in which he claimed innocence and informed that his actions followed the instructions of the Supreme Court. However, due to strong public outcry, the Uttar Pradesh government has to overturn his suspension.
