A lawyer for the Illinois state comptroller’s office was fired for an anti-Semitic tirade in which she told a Jew she wanted him to face the gas chamber and told him, “Hitler should have eradicated them all.”
Sarah Chowdhury referred to Jews as “vermin” and said “all Zionists should pay” in private messages with an Instagram account called Big Law Boiz.
Other messages, which the Instagram user took screenshots and They were later published in X, included: “I hope someone sends you anthrax or poison and you die a slow, terrible death.”
In the messages, he also said: “I would rather put them in a gas chamber” and “Hitler should have eradicated them all.”
The comptroller’s office said in a statement Thursday that it learned of Chowdhury’s private messages around 12:30 p.m., and Comptroller Susana Mendoza contacted her about an hour and a half later.

Chowdhury was fired after she admitted making at least some of the comments.
“The Mendoza Comptroller’s Office has zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech,” comptroller’s office he said in a statement.
She was also removed from her position as president of the South Asian Law Association.

“The South Asian Bar Association of Chicago opposes hate, bigotry and prejudice in any form,” the group said in a statement on Facebook.
Of Chowdhury’s comments, the bar association said: “We are deeply saddened and horrified by his words and their impact on our friends, family and colleagues, and we apologize for any harm they may have caused.

“His words are and will never be a reflection of SABA Chicago,” he continued. “To be clear, SABA Chicago condemns such hateful rhetoric and is committed to supporting our communities and all those affected by hate.”

The comptroller’s office said in a statement that Chowdhury was fired after admitting to making some of the comments.
Chowdhury said he is “extremely sorry” for the “inappropriate and reprehensible” comments and apologized to the person he sent the message to and anyone who read his comments, speaking to the Chicago Tribune.
She said she was distressed by the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and was frustrated by the way the media was covering the conflict and discussing it on social media.
