Incredible Miracle: 13-Year-Old Boy Survives Terrifying 100-foot Fall At Grand Canyon

A 13-year-old boy slipped and fell almost 100 feet (30 meters) at the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA. His name is Wyatt Kauffman. He fell from a famous tourist spot at the North Rim.

On Tuesday, the rescue team worked for two hours to bring him to safety. He had severe injuries and was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Now he’s out of the hospital after getting better. The boy said he fell while trying to make space for people taking photos.

He was crouching down and holding onto a rock with one hand. He slipped and started falling backward.

“After the fall, I don’t remember anything after that,” he told Phoenix television station KPNX.

“I just remember somewhat waking up and being in the back of an ambulance and a helicopter and getting on a plane and getting here.”

Kauffman got hurt badly. His spine broke in nine places, his spleen got torn, his hand broke, and his lung collapsed.

Officials mentioned that Wyatt Kauffman was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas. He had nine broken parts in his spine, a torn spleen, a collapsed lung, a hit on his head causing a concussion, a broken hand, and an out-of-place finger.

The Guardian reported that it took two hours for rescuers to save him after he slipped on a cliff along the Bright Angel Point trail last Tuesday.

The BBC reported that many rescue workers from the Grand Canyon National Park went down a cliff using ropes. They couldn’t use a helicopter because of the rough terrain.

“We’re extremely grateful for the work of everyone,” said Wyatt’s father, Brian Kauffman, who was home in North Dakota at the time of the accident.

“We’re just lucky we’re bringing our kid home in a car in the front seat instead of in a box.”
