How much do soldiers in the King’s Guard earn?
The King’s Guard has long been an object of public curiosity. Tourists’ newfound fascination with royal palace sentinels is nothing new on the Internet. However, the recent information about the King’s Guard and the possible salaries of the soldiers has left people absolutely speechless.
The expressionless soldiers who flock to Buckingham Palace and work in sun and storm only earn pennies below average when the people behind desks are paid twice as much. One guy on TikTok took it upon himself to research and post private information online so viewers could be picky.
The man, who bears the name @cuantoalthough On TikTok, he began by highlighting that the palace sentinels are primarily chosen from five regiments that include Grenadier Guards, Coldstreams, Scots, Irish and Welsh.

But how do they actually get in? Well, the TikToker explains, that the first requirement on the list is that applicants be over 16 years old and under 35 and a half years old. Another important factor taken into account when selecting potential guards in training is their physical fitness, although there are no set educational qualifications.
Successful applicants must undergo mandatory training to become part of the King’s Guard, starting with 28 weeks at the Catterick Infantry Training Center (ITC Catterick), which trains all infantry in the army.
Students learn the basics of gun handling, vital shots, survival, first aid, map reading, and building stamina and fitness. He also focuses heavily on exercise training given its prevalence throughout work in the palace. After training, soldiers join their respective battalions. It is here that, after training for six to 18 months, they learn ceremonial duties.
After all the training, the King’s Guard sentinel begins his job with a reported annual salary of 18,687 pounds (over Rs 19.5 lakh). The TikToker adds: “That changes quickly after being promoted to Guardsman – the equivalent of a private – increasing his salary to £23,496 (over Rs 24.5 lakh) after 26 weeks of service.”
These numbers only increase with cries from informants: “Once promoted Corporal First, you will earn £34,497 (Rs 36 Lakhs) a year.” Although these numbers continue to increase as guards rise through the ranks, people on the Internet still feel that their compensation was not enough for the amount of physical strength their job requires.
