Pennsylvania and Florida have emerged as top contenders for the best places to retire. These two states have charmed retirees from all walks of life with various offers and attractive services. We investigated the reasons for their dominance and comprehensively listed the top retirement destinations.
US News & World Report evaluated 150 of the country’s major metropolitan regions, including Puerto Rico, to determine the best place to retire.

The research offers an overall retirement score for each city based on six factors:
- housing affordability
- Attractive
- Happiness
- Quality of care
- Retiree Taxes
- the job market
Despite the popularity of Florida cities among retirees, the best US city for retirees, according to the survey, is Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Florida and Pennsylvania have dominated the list, accounting for nine of the ten cities.
According to Kiplinger, Florida does not tax income and Pennsylvania does not tax retirement pensions and distributions from 401(k), IRA or Social Security, which is tremendously advantageous for retirees.
These lists can be very helpful when deciding where to retire. However, keep your particular priorities in mind.
