The next update to Apple’s operating system for its mobile devices is almost here. It will be out in June. Reports say that Cupertino-based Apple is focusing more on its upcoming MR headphones and giving iOS 17 less attention.
Most likely, iOS 17 has a much shorter feature list than iOS 16, which had major changes to how it looks and works.
But that does not mean that iOS 17 is nothing more than a disaster. Although there aren’t many details at this time, there are a few things that the OS update is likely to add. We list these and other information about the update that we know.
Support for sideloaded apps?
Bloomberg said Apple employees are making changes to iOS that would allow apps from outside the App Store to run on the system. In response to EU rules, the company plans to do something by 2024. However, the changes could come with the release of iOS 17. If the changes are made, developers won’t have to pay Apple between 15% and 30% of your fees. .
But it’s also possible that Apple just changes its policy in the EU and keeps it the same in the rest of the world.
Third-party browsers without Webkit
Apple allows third-party browsers, but there’s a big rule. The company wants all browsers to use WebKit, the same engine that Safari uses. But claims that the WebKit requirement hurts competition are also part of the mounting antitrust pressure on Apple. The European Digital Markets Law could force Apple to abandon WebKit with iOS 17. If that happens, the App Store browsers could have more features that set them apart.
MR Headphone Stand
Apple’s long-rumored mixed reality headset is expected to finally come out this year. It is thought that the device will work on its own and will have its own App Store. But Apple is known for its ecosystem, where devices work together in different ways. It wouldn’t be a stretch to think that headphones and Apple’s iPhone will work together in some way. iOS 17 might have some features that work only with headphones.
CarPlay updates
At the WWDC 2022 event, Apple previewed a new version of CarPlay that works better with cars and lets you control things like volume and radio through CarPlay. The company also wants to add widgets and support for using more than one screen. Since the first cars with the next version of Apple CarPlay will be out in 2023, iOS 17 is likely to support it.
iOS 17 release date
Every year in June, Apple releases the first developer beta of a new version of iOS, and iOS 17 is expected to be no different. After some testing time, the first working version will be out when the iPhone 15 series comes out in September.
iOS 17 Compatible Devices
iPhones typically get 5 years of updates, though the iPhone 6s was supported for much longer. Based on this, we anticipate that the iPhone XS and later will be compatible with iOS 17.
