Israeli troops killed a Hamas commander who helped lead the Oct. 7 terrorist attack that killed about 1,200 people and took about 240 more hostage.
Adil Mismah, commander of the Nukhba company from the city of Deir al-Balah, was “eliminated,” the Israel Defense Forces wrote on Monday.
Mismah had led terrorists to Kibbutz Kissufim and ordered other gunmen to devastate the communities of Nirim and Be’eri, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The commander was killed in an airstrike led by Israeli ground troops, officials said.
The IDF said troops also “striked Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist targets” in Shejaiya and located a large cache of weapons, in addition to destroying a launch site and “eliminating” a terrorist cell that had attacked Israeli troops.
The IDF also shot down a Khan Yunis rocket launcher, as the Israeli Navy aimed at targets in Gaza, officials said Monday morning.
Israel has said its war in the disputed territory will last for months, resisting international calls for a prolonged ceasefire.
