According to a news release from the Massachusetts Lottery, Paul Bashaw of West Boylston informed his employer of over 20 years that he would retire at the end of the week on Monday, July 17. The next Thursday, he bought the winning ticket. He claimed his prize on Friday, July 28, at the Mass Lottery headquarters in Dorchester, after completing his two-week period without informing anyone at work about his winnings.

Bashaw is now a contented retired truck driver who will turn 66 later this year. He received a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes) and intends to travel with some of it.

“I told my wife that there were three things in life that I never thought I’d see happen: the Patriots winning the Super Bowl, getting a hole-in-one, which happened five years ago, and winning the Lottery, and now I’ve hit all three,” Bashaw said.
Bashaw purchased his winning ticket at J & J Variety, located at 360 West Boylston St. in West Boylston. The retailer received a $10,000 incentive to sell the ticket.
