A Japanese company has created the “world’s most expensive” ice cream, priced at 873,400 Japanese yen (approximately Rs 5.2 lakhs), according to Guinness World Records (GWR).

The brand, Cellato, used rare and expensive ingredients to make this particular dessert.

The main contributor to the high price is the rare white truffle from Alba, Italy, which costs 2 million Japanese yen (about 11.9 rupees) per kilogram. Parmigiano Reggiano and sake lees are also prominent ingredients used in ice cream.

Cellato aimed to create a unique ice cream by combining European and Japanese elements, and drew on the expertise of Tadayoshi Yamada, the head chef at RiVi, a popular fusion restaurant in Osaka, to achieve this goal.

“The Cellato staff who participated in the tasting session are rich in flavor and texture. They said the strong fragrance of white truffle fills the mouth and nose, followed by the complex and fruity flavors of Parmigiano Reggiano. The sake lees complete the glorious taste experience,” stated the website.
