Jeffrey Epstein appeared in Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter’s office in 2002 during a furious attempt to hide the truth about his sick sexual practices, which the magazine did not publish.
The pedophile went directly to Carter after journalist Vicky Ward spoke to two of his victims, Annie and Maria Farmer, who had reported his sordid practices.
Maria Farmer was a 25-year-old graduate student at the New York Academy of Art when Epstein accepted her as an art explorer.
She told Ward how in 1996, Epstein sexually assaulted her at the home of billionaire Victoria’s Secret owner Les Wexner in Ohio, and Ghislaine Maxwell held his hand.
Her sister Annie told Ward that Maxwell sexually assaulted her by touching her breasts when she was just 16 and trained her to give Epstein foot massages.
Epstein’s meeting with Carter occurred in the period before Vanity Fair published its profile of him in March 2003, without any reference to the Farmers’ revelations, under the headline: “The Talented Mr. Epstein.”

Epstein’s pressure campaign came into focus on Friday after the release of thousands of pages of redacted court documents showed that the pedophile’s most prominent victim, Victoria Guiffre, had claimed that it was former President Bill Clinton who had tried to censor Epstein. Vanity Fair.
An email in that trove showed her writing: “Yesterday, when I was doing some research on VF, I’m worried about what they might want to write about me considering B. Clinton came into VF and threatened them not to write articles about sex trafficking. about his good friend JE”
Ward told The Post that he believed Giuffre was wrong. Carter also said Clinton had not shown up at his office. “This categorically did not happen,” a spokesperson for the former Vanity Fair boss told The Post.
Maria Farmer, who was 25 when she was assaulted by Epstein and Maxwell, told Ward of her ordeal in 2002, but her account was never published. “I never heard of Bill Clinton coming to office,” said Ward, who now writes Vicky Ward Investigates. “I think Jeffrey Epstein got confused when he arrived in Virginia.
“Jeffrey Epstein, while the article was being fact-checked, showed up at the office. “A fact-checker named Mary Flynn emailed me and told me that Jeffrey Epstein was in Graydon’s office.”
The email says: “God bless you. Guess who just showed up in Graydon’s office? Jeffrey Epstein.”
The move came after Epstein’s all-out attempt to prevent the truth from coming to light in Vanity Fair.
Virginia Giuffre told Mail on Sunday reporter Sharon Churcher of her concerns about “B. Clinton.” Ward told The Post that Clinton had been “matched” with Epstein.
“He and I had become very contentious,” Ward said. “I had raised Annie and Maria Farmer’s allegations with him and Maxwell. “They went nuclear.”
“He said he would hire a witch to curse my unborn children if he didn’t like the story.”
When Ward heard that Epstein was in the office, she was on bed rest while pregnant.
“I called my editor immediately and said, ‘What the hell is Jeffrey Epstein doing there?’” he told The Post. “The thought of him being in Graydon’s office was appalling.”
Carter, in 2019, told the New York Times that Epstein had appeared in the offices of Vanity Fair, but not in his own office.

“When we were closing the story, I asked him to pose for pictures, and one day he showed up at the office and was sitting in our lobby,” said Carter, who edited Vanity Fair from 1992 to 2017. “I don’t know how he got there.”
His spokesperson told The Post on Friday: “There is nothing new to comment on.”
Ward and Carter have argued over why the Farmers’ revelations were cut from the story.
Carter told The New Yorker in 2022 that several executives, including Vanity Fair’s general counsel, did not believe Ward’s reporting would hold up in court and, as a result, deleted the Farmers’ account. He also said that Ward’s reporting was widely distrusted within the magazine.
Ward told The Post: “Graydon said he didn’t have enough sources. But he had them registered. So what more did he need?

“Graydon said I’m a shitty journalist and that my sources were terrible. He employed me for 10 more years. So it couldn’t have been that terrible.”
Vanity Fair also dropped coverage of Epstein in 2007, the year he was first federally investigated for preying on underage girls, writer John Connolly told The Post in 2020, before his death in 2022.
Carter’s family found a severed cat head on the porch of their Connecticut farmhouse, Connolly claimed in 2020. “There’s no question, it was left by Epstein or someone on his behalf,” he said.
That Monday, “I came into the office and Graydon was still upset,” recalled Connolly, who had been an NYPD detective. He “Asked if we should still do the story. I said no…it just wasn’t worth it. “Epstein surrounded himself with people who can be scary if you’re not a tough guy.”
Carter, however, said he and his wife believed the cat’s head had been left by “aggrieved supporters of George W. Bush” and said, “To suggest that it affected my editorial judgment is . . . mistaken.”
