A Wisconsin woman who ordered a book about Israeli history from Amazon was shocked to open it this week and discover that it was defaced with stickers that read “Free Palastine.”
When Shira Goldman, Madison’s mother, opened “Israel: A Simple Guide to the World’s Most Misunderstood Country,” she noticed the stickers, which included a fake barcode and the incorrect spelling of Palestine.
“It was very disturbing and I felt violated,” Goldman told The Post.
Goldman, who is Jewish, feared she would be attacked for her faith.
She shared the disturbing discovery with those close to her and then turned to Facebook for advice.
Word spread through different Jewish mothers groups, including Members of the Tribe Parenting and Mothers Against College Antisemitism, which has ballooned to nearly 50,000 members since its creation on October 26.

In addition to speaking out against anti-Semitism, many members of these online communities share book recommendations to help make sense of the war in the Middle East following the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7.
One of those books is usually Tishby’s. The Guide for Israeli Actresses and Activists was published in 2021, but hit the New York Times bestseller list last month.
Within hours of Goldman publishing his experience, a colleague who works for Amazon was able to get to the bottom of who defaced his book and the person was subsequently fired.
He then sent a new book to Goldman’s house on the exact same day.

It was apparently the last copy of the book in a storage room at Goldman’s home and an employee personally delivered it to him.
“A community came together to help each other,” Goldman said.
The author Tishby even found out about the incident and asked in X If this had happened to someone else. “This is unacceptable. I am in contact with [Amazon Books] and they are making sure this does not happen again.”

Although Amazon CEO Andy Jassy called the attacks against Israel “Shocking and painful to see” At X, some employees have pushed for greater public support for Palestine, the Washington Post reported last month.
The company has reportedly come under fire for failing to remove pro-Palestinian merchandise bearing the controversial phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
“We take this very seriously and apologize to the customer and author affected,” an Amazon spokesperson told the Post.
“We immediately launched an investigation into the defaced book, identified the person responsible and that person no longer works at Amazon.” The company did not name the saboteur.
