Workers at a California coffee shop were filmed denying a Jewish customer access to the bathroom after she complained that it was covered in anti-Semitic graffiti, telling her “Free Palestine” and accusing her of wanting to use the facility because “Israel loves it.” take private property and say it is yours.” own.”
Three employees at Farley’s East in Oakland stood in front of the bathroom and told a woman who was filming them, who seemed distraught, that she had to leave.
“I want to go to the bathroom,” the woman repeatedly implores the employees, who tell her that it is private property even as they confirm that she was a customer who had eaten there.
Then an employee smiles and says, “I know Israel loves to take private property and say it’s theirs, but we have to have…”
When the woman again says that she “was a customer here and I have the right to go to the bathroom,” the man responds: “And we have the right to refuse service.”
When an employee from a neighboring business intervenes to offer her the use of the bathroom next door to her business, the woman filming responds firmly: “No, I want to use this one. “I shouldn’t be excluded and allow other people.”
Once she was allowed inside, the woman filmed the bathroom, which displayed graffiti that read: “Zionism = Fascism.” One of the workers tells the woman that he needs to leave. One of the workers who blocks her path and tries to kick her out realizes that the customer will only see anti-Semitic graffiti, which suggests that she agrees with at least some of the messages.
Finally the client is allowed entry after asking: “If you agree with [the graffiti]Why are you afraid that I will take a photo?
“Oh, actually, great, please!” says the worker with apparent joy at what he is about to see.
He then films messages including “Zionism = Fascism,” “Your neutrality/apathy is allowing genocide,” and “Free Palestine.”
“The story didn’t begin in 1948, ma’am,” the worker jokes as the customer quickly films the inside of the bathroom.
“Free Palestine. Now please leave,” says one of the women.
“Free Palestine,” the man agrees, smiling and saying, “It’s always great. We LOVE it” as he films it.

“All three employees must be fired. This is INEXCUSABLE!” the watchdog group wrote.
Farley’s East confirmed the incident occurred at its cafe, calling it a “mistake” and only saying it had “taken corrective action with our staff,” without elaborating on what that meant.
“For context, hateful graffiti was written in our bathroom. We do not support hate speech; “This does not reflect our values,” the coffee shop wrote in what it called “a sincere apology.”
“After a customer used the bathroom and wanted to return to document the graffiti, he was initially denied access and was later allowed into the bathroom to film the graffiti. “We apologize for this error and the distress caused to the customer,” the statement continued.
The cafe apologized online without explaining what happened to workers.
“We are committed to ongoing staff training to achieve a safe and welcoming environment. Thank you for understanding that we are a small business doing our best to operate a community business in a difficult environment,” the coffee shop concluded.
It is unclear if the employees involved in the incident are still employed.
Farley’s East did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.
