A police officer in Mississippi, USA, shot an 11-year-old boy in his home after he dialed the emergency number 911 for help. Fortunately, the injured boy, identified as Aderrien Murry, is now recovering from his injuries and has been released from the hospital.
Following the incident, the boy’s family demanded that the officer involved be fired from his position and face charges related to the shooting.

According to the boy’s mother, Nakala Murry, an officer with the Indianola Police Department, shot Aderrien in the chest early Saturday morning while the officer was responding to a domestic disturbance call at the boy’s home.
Ms Murry described the situation, stating that the father of one of her children arrived at her home in an agitated state at around 4am on Saturday. Concerned for his safety, she asked her son, Aderrien, to call the police.
According to Ms. Murry, a police officer came to her front door with his gun drawn and motioned for everyone inside the house to come out.
She alleged that she was shot when her son came around a corner in the hallway and entered the main area.

“I can’t understand why. The same cop told him to get out of the house. (Aderrien) did, and they shot him. He kept asking, ‘Why did he shoot me? What did I do wrong?'” she said.

As mentioned in the CNN article, body camera footage related to the incident has not been made public. The lawyer involved stated that his request for the images was denied due to an ongoing investigation.
The Indianola Police Department confirmed that Officer Greg Capers was the officer involved in the incident.
Aderrien, the 11-year-old boy, received medical treatment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he was placed on a ventilator and chest tube for injuries including a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and a lacerated liver, as described reported. by Mr. Moore to The Washington Post.
Following his hospitalization, Aderrien was released and returned home to Indianola.
Outside City Hall, protesters rallied and called for Officer Capers to be fired, while Aderrien’s family members went inside to seek comment from the mayor on behalf of the city.
Following her interaction with the mayor, a visibly shaken Ms Murry informed reporters that “the mayor didn’t say anything.”
He also mentioned that no one from the police department had provided any updates on the investigation while he was in the hospital.
Ms Murry told reporters her son is recovering but she still has many questions about the incident.

She said that he asked her why she was shot while she was in the hospital and although she has been in a good mood, she occasionally breaks down in tears.
Mr. Moore intended to file a federal lawsuit to obtain the body camera footage. He also expressed his belief that Officer Capers should face criminal charges, stressing that the officer poses a threat to the safety of Indianola’s predominantly black population of about 9,300 residents.
