Information Kanakadasa Jayanti Wishes 2023
Daasashreshta Kanakadasa is a common name for the saint and philosopher Haridasa Kanaka Dasa (1509-1609). He was a well-known poet, reformer, musician and composer of Carnatic music. His compositions in keertanas, ugabhoga and Kannada for Carnatic music are among his best-known works. He composed in native metrical forms and simple Kannada, like other Haridasas. In Baada village near Bankapura in Karnataka, Kanaka Dasa was born into a Hindu Kannada Kuruba (shepherd) family. He served as a warrior in the Bankapura fort. I learned from Srinivasacharya. He learned tarka, vyakaran and “mimamsa” well when he was a child. According to one of his compositions, he adopted the practice of chanting Lord Hari’s name after suffering serious injuries in battle. Kanaka Dasa saw a beggar man and asked about him.
The beggar said that Kanaka had called him. Hari (Krishna) himself was the beggar, according to Kanaka Dasa. Lord Hari offered to grant three wishes to Kanaka Dasa. Lord Hari first asked if Kanaka wanted treasures. Kanaka Dasa refused, but asked for three things: 1) to be healed of all his wounds; 2) that Lord Hari would appear whenever Kanaka Dasa called him; and 3) give darshan at his first appearance. These wishes were granted by God. Kanaka Dasa was mesmerized when he saw Lord Hari in his original form. After this incident, Kanaka left his work as a ksatriya (warrior) and focused on writing literature, writing music and teaching philosophy to people about Sri Hari. Poems like “Narasimha Stotra”, “Ramadhyana Mantra” and “Mohanatarangini” are among his earliest spiritual works.
