“They have said there is no crime, they do not suspect it and it is not being treated as a homicide investigation,” the lawyer said.

Picerno insisted that his client, who works as a scientist developing HIV vaccines, would have done everything in his power to help Harrington, Johnson and McGeeney.

“They were his friends… They hung out all the time, two of them he went to high school with,” Picerno said, adding that Willis had bought them all tickets to the Chief’s playoff game next weekend against Miami .

Friends of the victims had taken to social media to maintain that Willis was partially responsible for the strange deaths, which appear to raise as many questions as the frozen bodies found in the final season of “True Detective.”
