Birth and early life
Lisa Ray was born on April 4, 1972 in Toronto, Canada. Her father LK Dutta is a Bengali and her mother Jennifer Dutta is a Polish citizen. Thanks to her father, her spirituality always leaned towards Hinduism. She also believes in Buddhist spirituality. Lisa grew up in Etobicoke and visits Calcutta several times with her father. She completed her education at three different secondary schools: Etobicoke Collegiate Institute, Richview Collegiate Institute, and Silverthorn Collegiate Institute.

Career
After completing her education, Lisa Ray came to Mumbai and started working as a model. She was first seen on television in a Bombay Dyeing commercial, wearing a high-cut black swimsuit in 1990. She was later seen in some advertisements.
After spending some time in the industry based in Mumbai, Lisa returned to Canada to complete her journalism studies at university. In 1996, Lisa continued her career in the Indian industry. She debuted in Bollywood in 2001 with the Hindi film Kasoor, opposite Aftab Shivdasani in this film. Lisa’s voice was actually dubbed by Divya Dutta because she couldn’t speak in Hindi. Just after that, she appeared in Bollywood movies like Bollywood/Hollywood, Ball & Chain, Water, Looking for Fear and many more.
Lisa’s most memorable performance was seen in the 2005 film “Water.” This was an Indian-Canadian film and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. She was also nominated for best actress at OSCOR. Lisa Ray also worked in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. She begins a career in acting with the Tamil film Nethaji (1996) in which she played the role of Priya. In 2002, she debuted in a Telugu film with Takkari Donga.

Personal life
On June 23, 2009, Lisa suffered from multiple myeloma, a cancer of the white blood cells. It is a rare disease. In April 2010 she announced that she was no longer cancer-free after a stem cell transplant. Lisa Ray announced her engagement to Jason Dehni (consultant) in February 2012. The couple married on October 20, 2012 in Napa Valley, California. This couple was blessed with a twin daughter through surrogacy in June 2018.
