A group of young looters wreaked havoc in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, robbing several stores in a spree unrelated to earlier peaceful protests over a judge’s decision to drop charges against a police officer who shot and killed Eddie Irizarry. , the police said.
The unruly crowd outnumbered responding officers as they went from store to store in Center City, lifting merchandise and stuffing it into large plastic bags, CBS Philadelphia reported.
Thieves targeted a Foot Locker and Apple store near 15th and Chestnut streets, as well as a Lululemon in Rittenhouse Square, and are accused of assaulting a security guard at the shoe store, according to the local station.
At least 15 people were arrested in connection with the mass robbery frenzy, according to ABC7.
The looting has no connection to protests held earlier in the day over the dismissal of charges in the Irizarry case, several Philadelphia police commanders told the outlet.

Municipal Judge Wendy Pew dismissed all charges, including murder, manslaughter, official oppression and more, against Philadelphia Officer Mark Dial, who shot Irizarry, 27, through his car window during a traffic stop on August 14.
Pew said he agreed “100%” with Dial’s defense attorneys, who argued that the officer acted in self-defense when he fired his gun six times at Irizarry, believing he had a gun.
Irizarry, who was stopped for driving erratically after a brief chase, had a knife near his legs that Dial’s partner testified he may have mistaken for a gun because of its dark handle.
The victim’s relatives were baffled by the judge’s decision, which prosecutors plan to appeal.
