Madhya Pradesh Polls 2023
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are gearing up for a high-stakes contest in Madhya Pradesh ahead of elections to the 230-member assembly. Three of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s supporters, OPS Bhadoria from Mehgaon, Munna Lal Goyal from Gwalior East and Raksha Sanoria from Bhander, were denied tickets, according to a Times of India article. This seems to be causing some discontent in the BJP as the names of the candidates are revealed. Instead, Rakesh Shukla of Mehgaon was given the ticket, and Maya Singh of Gwalior East and Ghanshyam Pironia were given the ticket of Bhander.
Supporters of BJP leader Munnalal Goyal on Sunday demonstrated outside Scindias’ Jai Vilas Palace in Gwalior after he was not given a ticket for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, which are scheduled for next month. The BJP on Friday released its fifth list of 92 candidates for the November elections. Goyal, who previously represented Gwalior East, did not receive an entry. Maya Singh, candidate from Gwalior East, has been nominated by the BJP. Jyotiraditya Scindia drove to the palace gate and claimed to be supporting Goyal and the protesters in an attempt to appease them.
“We have come here to ask Scindia to remove the Gwalior East candidate and appoint Munnalal Goyal,” said one of his supporters during his speech. No one else can get the seat. There is someone who cannot even walk designated for the candidate position. We are giving the seat to Congress on a silver platter. Therefore, we are hurt. We have come here to ask for this. Although we support the party to win the seat, we have nothing against the party or the current candidate.” Munnalal Goyal, then a member of the Congress Party, emerged victorious from Gwalior East in the 2018 elections.
