Man arrested in Spain for faking heart attacks 20 times in fancy restaurants to avoid paying the bill

When it comes to avoiding the bill, people can get pretty creative. But where do we draw the line between intelligent and excessive? According to Daily Loud, local police in Spain’s Blanca region arrested a man who gained notoriety for eating at fancy restaurants and faking a heart attack to avoid paying.

How did the man fool the restaurants?

A photo of the 50-year-old man is now being shared among restaurants as a precaution. Police reported that the man managed to deceive more than 20 restaurants. His plan fell apart when, at a hotel restaurant, he received a bill for $37.

When the staff member briefly walked away, the man attempted to leave without paying, but was stopped and informed he still owed the bill.

In an attempt to evade payment, he claimed he would get the money back for his hotel room, but the staff would not allow him to leave. At that point, she began to pretend that he had a heart attack.

“It was very theatrical; he pretended to faint and collapsed on the floor.” the restaurant manager told a Spanish media outlet. “We have sent his photo to all the restaurants to try to prevent him from attacking again.”

According to the Spanish news agency EFE, the man was wearing long gray pants, a polo shirt, trekking shoes and a vest from a famous brand.

When he asked the restaurant staff to call an ambulance, they refused and contacted the police. Upon his arrival, the police identified the man from previous incidents in other restaurants in Alicante and took him into custody, according to EFE.
