Manraj Singh: The Gold Medallist Para-Powerlifter Struggling To Survive By Repairing Tyre Punctures

Today we offer you the story of Manraj Singh, an international para-powerlifter from Punjab. As per a report by News18, he is currently employed in a store where he repairs tyre punctures on bicycles, motorcycles, and four-wheelers.

The para-powerlifter, who has won multiple gold medals while representing Punjab and India at the national and international levels, lives with his family in Raipur Bet, a small village 20 kilometres from Ludhiana. 

Manraj informed News18 that mending automobile punctures provides him with enough income to support his family and himself.
Manraj further said that he has received no financial assistance from the state government for the events in which he has competed. 

He claimed that when he travelled to play for his country in Dubai, he was responsible for all expenses over Rs 1 lakh.

Despite winning a gold medal, he was not recognised by the government or the local MLA who came to visit him for his achievements when he returned to India.
Manraj Singh stated that the new government is encouraging kids to participate in sports in order to eliminate drug use, but they are not paying attention to para-athletes.

He lives with his parents, wife, and two children, one of whom is following in her father’s footsteps. She has also been engaging in powerlifting. She even took gold in a recent tournament in Punjab.

Singh has encouraged the state government to provide financial assistance to good players and to divert as many young people as possible to sports in order to keep them from developing harmful habits such as drug use.
