Marjorie Taylor Greene warns ‘MAGA would rebel’ if Haley ran as Trump’s candidate

Far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday disparaged the prospect that former President Donald Trump would choose Nikki Haley as his running mate if he wins the Republican presidential nomination.

Greene (R-Ga.), an outspoken Trump supporter, 77, who has mulled joining his candidacy, criticized the former South Carolina governor and former ambassador to the United Nations as a “neoconservative.”

“MAGA would revolt if Nikki Haley was even granted an internship in the next Trump administration,” Greene predicted on X.

“She represents the last wing of the American neoconservative establishment of the Republican Party that we are done with.”

Haley’s campaign has touted significant momentum in the polls in recent months, surpassing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both in Iowa and nationally, while moving up to second place in New Hampshire, according to the RealClearPolitics aggregate.

While rumors have circulated about the possibility of Haley serving in a second Trump administration, the 51-year-old has refused to publicly condone the prospect, repeatedly insisting on the campaign trail: “I’m not playing for second place.”

Greene further alleged in X that Haley “lied and said she would not run against Trump.”

Trump claimed that Haley called him before announcing her candidacy last February.

Greene, who already endorsed Trump in the 2024 primary, publicly raised the possibility of being Trump’s running mate in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in August.

“I have a lot of things to think about,” he said at the time. “Will I be part of President Trump’s cabinet if he wins? Is it possible for him to be vice president?

Some prominent Republicans have actively floated Haley as a potential vice presidential pick for Trump.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) recently suggested she would push for it in a general election.

“If you were making purely political choices, what it looks like today is that the anti-Trump vote is going to Nikki Haley,” McCarthy said at the New York Times’ DealBook summit in late November.

Haley’s team has touted a recent Wall Street Journal poll in which she had a 17-point lead over President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 election, while Trump could only muster a four-point margin.

Haley’s campaign declined to comment on Greene’s attack.

Trump remains the GOP 2024 favorite, with a 48 percentage point national lead in the most recent RealClearPolitics aggregate.

The 45th president has been cautious about his choice of vice president, although he has publicly raged at the previous one, Mike Pence, for his refusal to rule out the result of the January 6, 2021 election.
